Basic government education: Preparing the child for the future

Basic government education is essential for any child in order to fully understand and contribute to its environment and be a full participating member of today’s society.  Therefore it is important to start educating our children as early as possible in order to familiarize them with the various processes that are involved. Basic government education covers a wide variety of subjects and is spread over several stages of the child’s education, starting at preschool kindergarten and continues through the first and second grade.

Basic government education consists of the following parts:

Democracy

The children are taught the way a government works using the democratic model as a foundation, as well as to teach them the fact that democracy is not a privilege but one of the essential human rights.

The election process

The children learn how the election process works by using familiar characters and allowing them to vote on one of those in an election game in order to familiarize them with everything that is involved with an election as well as the proper mindset that comes with it.

Basic Lawmaking

Children are taught about what is involved in creating a new law and how it gets enacted in order to create the basic understanding how today's laws are constructed and put into effect.

Presidential election

Children are familiarized with the process of a Presidential election by placing them in the position if they were to run for president. Through this process every aspect of such an election from campaign to voting is covered creating the basic understanding on how the process works.

Dictatorship

Through the use of ancient examples of dictatorships throughout history the children are educated about this type of government.

Presidential history

Through this part of basic government education children are familiarized with the presidents of the past in order to create the basic historical knowledge of the government.

It should be noted that the topics mentioned above are a general selection of the main parts government education covers. Each part of the basic government training consists of several parts where the main subject is covered in more detail.

All of the above will contribute greatly to the social development of the child who will have a much better understanding on government policies and the workings of it. This in turn will result in conscious voting during elections and other governmental events as well as develop a greater understanding of government policies and why they are implemented.
