The importance of basic English education
Throughout history English has increasingly become the universal language. It is the language of choice for any international event and it is the language that is most wide spread across the world. No matter where you are and what the native language is, when using English, chances are good there will always be plenty of natives that can understand you.
It is therefore essential that basic English education is taught as early as possible at the schools in order to enable the children to speak, read and write it fluently.
In the US where a large part of the population still has problems reading, writing and speaking English, but are fluent in another language, special bilingual programs have been introduced to support those with a limited grasp on the English language. In short this means for example; a student with limited understanding of the English language but on the other hand is fluent in another, would be placed in so called English only classes which forces the student to pick up the language much faster then they would have if not properly motivated.
Being skilled in basic English is a main factor of success in many areas of a person's life, it is the language of choice for 820 million people worldwide and a second language for many more. It is quite rightly called the universal language. English has become a part of our lives in such a way that it is present in everything we do. We are confronted with the language when listening to the radio, when watching TV, or reading a magazine. Many terms that are commonly used are derived from the English language and many appliances come with only an English manual. On the job English is a large part of the jargon in any area of expertise and especially in the IT sector one will not go far if they do not comprehend the English language.
This being said, it is obvious that basic English education should be part of any schools teaching program in order to prepare our children for their futures. It is one of the essential skills no person can do without in life, be it on the job, or privately, English will always be a large factor and in order to fully develop and reach their full potential at least the basic understanding of the language must be taught.
