The importance of basic art education

Basic art courses are target based and designed to progress from one level to the next. The basic art course trains children how to express themselves and provides all the necessary skills for further development in art studies at university level. Enrolling in these courses is strictly on a voluntary basis and the organizations providing the courses can charge small fees for the provided service.

Basic arts courses are different from the general mandatory basic courses. Organizations providing the courses are granted government funding that is calculated based on local population figures. Another factor in receiving grants from the government is the amount of lesson hours that are confirmed. There is no difference in grants given by the government between private providers of the service and their public counterparts.

Art by itself does not contribute to the solutions for problems but teaching basic art certainly does as years of study have shown that basic art teachings are connected to just about everything we do or say we want for our young ones. Basic art education is a key factor for social and emotional evolution and creates equal opportunities for all.

Being involved in the arts develops the mind and this in turn results in improved math, better reading skills, also the ways of thinking critically and the ability to express oneself verbally improves greatly. This was scientifically proven in 2005 in a study conducted by the Rand Corporation. Arts expand on the mindset of a person allowing them to broaden the horizon and look at things with a new found perspective. In short the arts contribute to better connect a person to the world.

Teaching basic art education at schools or private institutions helps to bridge a gap that has caused many children to fall behind in their social development. Throughout history it was the children of the wealthy that were exposed to the arts, like music and musea, while children with "low income parents" did not. Basic art education solves this and creates an equal opportunity for all children whether they come from wealth or poverty.

Throughout their basic education we are teaching our children to be ready for today’s society, to secure a job, to be a respected citizen and basically a contributing member of society and lastly we teach them how to enjoy the deeper side of life in order to enrich their feelings of appreciation and enjoyment towards the world around us and to gain a deeper understanding. Each of these three targets is as important as the other and to neglect one is to diminish them all.
